A Circular walk along the Tissington and High Peak Trails

Distance 10.5 kilometres (6.5 miles) 450 feet of ascent. EASY

From the car park at Parsley Hay (SK 147 636) take the High Peak Trail to the left (heading south). This is the old track bed of the railway from Ashbourne to Buxton.

After 0.6 kilometres (0.4 miles) there is a fork in the track. Take the right hand fork (which is the Tissington Trail). Where the tracks divide, there is an old concrete marking showing the names (I think ???) of the two railway companies whose tracks joined here.

After a further 2.5 kilometres (1.6 miles) the Hartington signal box is reached. This is sometimes open to the public.

The track goes under a road and a footpath crosses it. A second footpath crosses the track 1.8 kilometres (1.1 miles) from the signal box. Take the footpath on the left. It runs parallel to the track for a few hundred metres before diverging toward the right hand side of trees on the top of a small knoll.

When the trees have been reached, follow the track toward the farm. The footpath goes to the right of the farm building before reaching the A515 near the A515's junction with the A5012.

Walk down the A5012 for 200 metres then take the left hand road.

After passing the ??? works on the left, access to the High Peak Trail is on the right. Head leftwards on the High Peak Trail (north west) and this will eventually bring you back to the car park at Parsley Hay. After going under the only bridge (before the High Peak and Tissington Trails meet, look back at the bridge. It contains the coat of arms of the Cromford railway.

Well that's the legal stuff sorted.

Should you decline to comply with this warning, a leather winged demon of the night will soar from the deep malevolent caverns of the white peak into the shadowy moonlit sky and, with a thirst for blood on its salivating fangs, search the very threads of time for the throbbing of your heartbeat. Just thought you'd want to know that.
